If a man divorces his wife and she leaves him and marries another man, should he return to her again? Would not the land be completely defiled? But you have lived as a prostitute with many lovers— would you now return to me?" declares the LORD. Jeremiah 3:1

And the elders shall take the man and punish him. They shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the girl's father, because this man has given an Israelite virgin a bad name. She shall continue to be his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives. Deuteronomy 22:18-19

I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery. Matthew 19:9

For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named (Ephesians 3:14-15).
Bible calls everyone those who believe in Jesus Christ as the children of God (John 1:12). And when we come to Jesus and be created as the new creation and led by the Spirit of God then we will become the Sons of God (Romans 8:14). From the beginning God is very much interested in the creation of the family for we can see what God said after creation of man, God said, it is not good for man to be alone (Genesis 2:18), that is the time the idea of family is existed in His mind. From that time God was keep on building the families. Psalmist David said about the decree of the LORD, You are my Son, today I have become your father (Psalm 2:7) and God sets the lonely into the families (Psalm 68:6).
Who else we have in this family that is built by God, we have a Father, an elder brother Jesus Christ and the brothers and sisters. The author of Hebrews says that, Jesus is not ashamed to call us brothers (Hebrews 2:11). In this world though we may live among many, yet we may feel loneliness, it is the very painful time in our life. To deliver us from these painful situations, God is building His own family and He has accepted us as the members of His own family by giving us the unfailing Grace (Ephesians 1:4-6). This house is built by God so it is a secured family.
Dear brothers and sisters, even if we are facing the loneliness among the many, we need not to worry of this. For we have a family which is filled with the Grace of God and Glory of God, and where we are not second class children, we need not to knock the door as an outsider, but we are the children and He is waiting for us with open arms. For when we come to know The LORD through Jesus Christ, we are highly favored one (Luke 1:28).
            GOD BLESS YOU

+++ What the Bible says about Marriage? +++

+++ What the Bible says about Marriage? +++

Gen. 2:20-24 - we see that, from the beginning, husband and wife are joined together by God and become one body. A body cannot be dismembered and still live.

Mal. 2:16 - God says "I hate divorce." These are strong words from our Lord. Divorce and remarriage violates the sacred marital covenant between a husband and a wife that has been ordained by God.

Matt. 19:6 - Jesus makes it clear that it is God who joins the husband and wife together, according to His will. What God joins together cannot be dissolved because God's will is perfect and eternal.

Matt. 19:9; Mark 10:11-12; Luke 16:18 - Jesus says that whoever divorces and remarries another commits adultery. This is an offense against the natural law.

Rom. 7:2-3 - again, Paul reiterates Jesus' teaching that sacramental marriage followed by a divorce and remarriage is adultery. He who commits adultery destroys himself. (Prov. 6:23). Many Protestant denominations have rejected this teaching of Jesus and His Church.

1 Cor. 7:10-11 - once again, Paul gives Christ's teaching that married couples cannot divorce and remarry. This violates God's divine plan for the husband and wife.

Matt. 5:31-32 - the Lord permits divorce only for "porneia." This Greek word generally means unlawful sexual intercourse due to either blood relations (also called incest) or nonsacramental unions. The Lord does not permit divorce for "moicheia" (adultery). It is also important to note that in these cases, a marriage never existed in the first place, so the Lord is not actually permitting divorce, but a dissolution of the unlawful union.

Eph. 5:22-32 - Paul says that the sacramental union of husband and wife is the image of Christ and the Church. Just as Christ the Bridegroom and His Bride the Church are inseparable, so are a husband and wife also inseparable. A civil divorce cannot dissolve a sacramental marriage (between two baptized people).

1 Cor. 7:12-15 - these verses set forth what the Church calls the "Pauline privilege" - two unbaptized people marry, and afterwards one of the people is baptized. If the unbaptized person decides to leave the marriage, the Christian is free to remarry (because the first marriage was not sacramental, and a union between a baptized and an unbaptized person can jeopardize the baptized person's faith).

Ezra 10:1-14 - these verses support what the Church calls the "Petrine privilege" - a baptized person marries an unbaptized person. To save the baptized person’s faith from being jeopardized, the Pope may dissolve such a marriage pursuant to his binding and loosing authority.

Rev. 19:9 - the marital union of man and woman reflect Christ's union with the Church at the heavenly marriage supper. Just as Christ and the Church have become one flesh through the Eucharist and the union brings forth spiritual life for God's children, a man and a woman become one flesh and their union brings forth physical life for the Church. This union is indissoluble.

Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of His inheritance? You do not stay angry for ever but delight to show mercy (Micah 7:18).
Bible says that our God is forgiving God (Nehemiah 9:17). His forgiveness is not the partial forgiveness, but total forgiveness. Everything that we have done in our life is completely forgiven by God and the new life was given to us. After that every accusation that is caused by the enemy cannot effect us, for our God will crush all the enemy traps under foot as He has promised (Romans 16:20). Our God is the victorious God, and He gives us victory over sins. God throws our sins into the depths of the sea, and He warns us not to try to bring them out from where God has buried them.
Prophet Micah said, there is no god like our God who forgives our sins and the transgressions of His children (Micah 7:18). He is not angry forever, He is slow in angry (Exodus 34:6), and so when He said your sins are forgiven, means that we are forgiven forever. It is with us what to do next to that. Do we need to be made into a new creation or remain into the old self? Prophet Isaiah said about God that, “He is the God who blots out our transgressions for His own sake, and He will remember our sins no more” (Isaiah 43:25), what else we need in our life? God is assuring that He not only forgives our sins but He will never remember our sins against us. Forgiveness and forgetting them is the greatest feature of our God.
The people of this world may not forget how we loved once, they always remember them and they always try to remind us about our past life for it is their nature from the beginning. But God says that when He forgives us, we are forgiven indeed. There is no partial forgiveness in God. God never postpone His forgiveness, He never forgives us a part today and another day the other part. Healing comes from the complete forgiveness. When we see, Jesus healing the paralytic man, he said “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven” (Matthew 9:2). In this Jesus first forgives the sins and then healed, that is how the God’s forgiveness works in our life. Jesus said, Son of Man has authority to forgive sins…. (Mathew 9:6). Bible says, believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved – you and your household” (Acts 16:31). When we are saved, that means we are saved forever.
            GOD BLESS YOU

Blasphemy is the Unpardonable Sin

And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Matthew 12:31

Anyone who blasphemes the name of the LORD must be put to death. The entire assembly must stone him. Whether an alien or native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death. Leviticus 24:16

I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin." Mark 3:28-29

And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. Luke 12:10

You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. Exodus 20:7

Remember how the enemy has mocked you, O LORD, how foolish people have reviled your name. Psalm 74:18

I know your afflictions and your poverty—yet you are rich! I know the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Revelation 2:9

All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered. 1 Timothy 6:1

Both your sins and the sins of your fathers,"says the LORD. Because they burned sacrifices on the mountains and defied me on the hills, I will measure into their laps
the full payment for their former deeds. Isaiah 65:7

Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme. 1 Timothy 1:20

But because by doing this you have made the enemies of the LORD show utter contempt, the son born to you will die. 2 Samuel 12:14

Woe to them, because they have strayed from me! Destruction to them, because they have rebelled against me! I long to redeem them but they speak lies against me. Hosea 7:13

Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong. James 2:7

He answered: "That they get bored of being children, are in a rush to grow
up, and then long to be children again.

That they lose their health to make money and then lose their money to
restore their health.

That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, such
that they live neither for the present nor the future.

That they live as if they will never die, and they die as if they had never

His hands took mine and we were silent. After a long period, I said, "May I
ask you another question?"

He replied with a smile.

"As a Father, what would you ask your children to do for the new year?"

"To learn they cannot make anyone love them. What they can do is to let
themselves be loved.

To learn that it takes years to build trust, and a few seconds to destroy

To learn that what is most valuable is not what they have in their lives,
but who they have in their lives.

To learn that it is not good to compare themselves to others. There will be
others better or worse than they are.

To learn that a rich person is not one who has the most, but is one who
needs the least.

To learn that they should control their attitudes, otherwise their attitudes
will control them. To learn that it only takes a few seconds to open
profound wounds in persons we love, and that it takes many years to heal
them. To learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness.

To learn that there are persons that love them dearly, but simply do not
know how to show their feelings.

To learn that money can buy everything but happiness.

To learn that while at times they may be entitled to be upset, that does not
give them the right to upset those around them.

To learn that great dreams do not require great wings, but a landing gear to

To learn that true friends are scarce, he/she who has found one has found a
true treasure.

To learn that it is not always enough that they be forgiven by others, but
that they forgive themselves.

To learn that they are masters of what they keep to themselves and slaves of
what they say.

To learn that they shall reap what they plant; if they plant gossip they
will harvest intrigues, if they plant love they will harvest happiness.

To learn that true happiness is not to achieve their goals but to learn to
be satisfied with what they already achieved. To learn that happiness is a
decision. They decide to be happy with what they are and have, or die from
envy and jealousy of what they lack.

To learn that two people can look at the same thing and see something
totally different.

To learn that those who are honest with themselves without considering the
consequences go far in life.

To learn that even though they may think they have nothing to give, when a
friend cries with them, they find the strength to appease the pain.

To learn that by trying to hold on to love ones, they very quickly push them
away; and by letting go of those they love, they will be side by side

To learn that even though the word "love" has many different meanings, it
loses value when it is overstated.

To learn that they can never do something extraordinary for Me to love them;
I simply do.

To learn that the shortest distance they could be from Me is the distance of
a prayer."

God bless.

Dear God,

I'm writing to say I'm sorry

For being angry yesterday

When you seemed to ignore my prayer

And things didn't go my way

First, my car broke down

I was very late for work

But I missed that awful accident

Was that your handiwork?

I found a house I loved

But others got there first

I was angry, then relieved

When I heard the pipes had burst!

Yesterday, I found the perfect dress

But the color was too pale

Today, I found the dress in red

Would you believe, it was on sale!

I know you're watching over me

And I'm feeling truly blest

For no matter what I pray for

You always know what's best!

I have this circle of E-mail friends,

Who mean the world to me;

Some days I "send" and "send",

At other times, I let them be.

When I see each name download,

And view the message they've sent;

I know they've thought of me that day,

And "well wishes" were their intent.

I am so blessed to have these friends,

With whom I've grown so close;

So this little poem I dedicate to them,

Because to me they are the "Most"!

So to you, my friends, I would like to say,

Thank you for being a part;

Of all my daily contacts,

This comes right from my heart.

God bless you all is my prayer today,

I'm honored to call you "friend";

I pray the Lord will keep you safe,

Until we write again.

God Bless You

"Why does God require Faith?

Why doesn't God "prove" Himself to us so there is no need for faith?"

Our relationship with God is similar to our relationship with others in that all relationships require faith.

We can never fully know any other person. We cannot experience all they experience nor enter into their minds to know what their thoughts and emotions are.

Proverbs 14:10 says,

"The heart knows its own bitterness, and a stranger does not share its joy."

We are incapable of even knowing our own hearts fully. Jeremiah 17:9 says that the human heart is wicked and deceptive, "Who can know it?" In other words, the human heart is such that it seeks to hide the depth of its wickedness, deceiving even its owner.

We do this through shifting blame, justifying wrong behaviour, minimizing our sins, etc.

Because we are incapable of fully knowing other people, to some degree faith (trust) is an integral ingredient in all relationships.

For example, a wife gets into a car with her husband driving, trusting him to drive safely, even though he often drives faster than she would on winter roads. She trusts him to act in their best interest at all times.

We all share information about ourselves with others, trusting they will not betray us with that knowledge.

We drive down the road, trusting those driving around us to follow the rules of the road. So, whether with strangers or with intimate friends and companions, because we cannot fully know others, trust is always a necessary component of our relationships.

If we cannot know our fellow finite human beings fully, how can we expect to fully know an infinite God?

Even if He should desire to fully reveal Himself, it is impossible for us to fully know Him.

It is like trying to pour the ocean (seemingly infinite in quantity) into a quart-measuring jar (finite)... impossible!

Nonetheless, even as we can have meaningful relationships with others that we have grown to trust because of our knowledge of them and of their character, so God has revealed enough about Himself through His creation (Romans 1:18-21), through His written Word, the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:16-21), and through His Son (John 14:9), that we can enter into a meaningful relationship with Him.

But this is only possible when the barrier of one's sin has been removed by trusting in Christ's person and work on the cross as payment for one's sin.

This is necessary because, as it is impossible for both light and darkness to dwell together, so it is impossible for a holy God to have fellowship with sinful man unless his sin has been paid for and removed.

Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, died on the cross to take our punishment and change us so that the one who believes on Him can become a child of God and live eternally in His presence (John 1:12; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 2 Peter 3:18; Romans 3:10-26).

There have been times in the past that God has revealed Himself more "visibly" to people.

One example of this is at the time of the exodus from Egypt, when God revealed His care for the Israelites by sending the miraculous plagues upon the Egyptians until they were willing to release the Israelites from slavery. God then opened the Red Sea, enabling the approximately two million Israelites to cross over on dry ground. Then, as the Egyptian army sought to pursue them through the same opening, He crashed the waters upon them (Exodus 14:22-29). Later, in the wilderness, God fed them miraculously with manna, and He guided them in the day by a pillar of cloud and in the night by a pillar of fire, visible representations of His presence with them (Exodus 15:14-15).

Yet, in spite of these repeated demonstrations of His love, guidance, and power, the Israelites still refused to trust Him when He wanted them to enter into the Promised Land.

They chose instead to trust the word of ten men who frightened them with their stories of the walled cities and the giant stature of some of the people of the land (Numbers 13:26-33).

These events show that God's further revelation of Himself to us would have no greater effect on our ability to trust Him.

Were God to interact in a similar fashion with people living today, we would respond no differently than the Israelites because our sinful hearts are the same as theirs.

The Bible also speaks of a future time when the glorified Christ will return to rule the earth from Jerusalem for 1,000 years (Revelation 20:1-10). More people will be born on the earth during that reign of Christ.

He will rule with complete justice and righteousness, yet, in spite of His perfect rule, the Bible states that at the end of the 1,000 years, Satan will have no trouble raising an army to rebel against Christ's rule.

The future event of the millennium and the past event of the exodus reveal that the problem is not with God insufficiently revealing Himself to man; rather, the problem is with man's sinful heart rebelling against God's loving reign.

We sinfully crave self-rule.

God has revealed enough of His nature for us to be able to trust Him.

He has shown through the events of history, in the workings of nature, and through the life of Jesus Christ that He is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-wise, all-loving, all-holy, unchanging, and eternal.

And in that revelation, He has shown that He is worthy to be trusted.

But, as with the Israelites in the wilderness, the choice is ours whether or not we will trust Him.

Often, we are inclined to make this choice based on what we think we know about God rather than what He has revealed about Himself and can be understood about Him through a careful study of His inerrant Word, the Bible.

If you have not already done so, begin a careful study of the Bible, that you may come to know God through a reliance upon His Son, Jesus Christ, who came to earth to save us from our sins, so that we might have sweet companionship with God both now and in a fuller way in heaven one day.

what can wash away my sin....Nothing but the Blood, the Song and the Story Composer Robert Lowry

Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, would write these words,

"Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God." (Romans 3:25)

The emphasis of this verse is on the shed blood that satisfies or propitiates our sin debt.

Another way of saying the same thing is,

"What can wash away our sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus."

More than likely it was this verse or one like it, dealing with the subject of blood, which caused Pastor Robert Lowry to write a hymn.

Born in Philadelphia, on March 12, 1826, young Robert accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 17 and later graduated from Bucknell University with high scholastic honours. In the 73 years of his life here on earth, he pastored churches in Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York City and Brooklyn.

Along with his preaching, Dr. Lowry also had the gift of music in the writing of hymns.

When asked about his method for writing songs, he would answer by saying:

I have no set method. Sometimes, the music comes and the words follow. I watch my moods, and when anything strikes me, whether words or music, no matter where I am, at home or on the street, I jot it down.

My brain is sort of a spinning machine, for there is music running through it all the time.

The tunes of nearly all the hymns I have written have been completed on paper, before I tried them on the organ. Frequently, the words of the hymn and the music have been written at the same time.

He supplied the music for such familiar hymns as Were Marching to Zion, Savior, Thy Dying Love, Where Is my Wandering Boy Tonight, I Need Thee Every Hour and Fanny Crosbys song, All the Way my Savior Leads Me.

The words and music would come together in 1864 to produce Shall We Gather at the River. Then, in the Easter season of 1874, Christ Arose would flow from his pen and his heart.

Finally, in 1876, Pastor Lowry would give us the answer to our sin debt in his song, Nothing but the Blood.

Down through the ages, man has tried to work off his sin debt in good works and religion only to fail. The Bible says,

"Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness." (Hebrews 9:22)

Robert Lowry understood this very well:

Oh! Precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Nothing But the Blood
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Refrain:Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

For my pardon, this I see,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
For my cleansing this my plea,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Nothing can for sin atone,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Naught of good that I have done,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

This is all my hope and peace,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Now by this I'll overcome
Nothing but the blood of Jesus,
Now by this I'll reach my home
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Glory! Glory! This I sing
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
All my praise for this I bring
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

Anil Kant - Former Bollywood Icon to Gospel Singer

Anil Kant comes from a Hindu-Punjabi family.

His parents being very devout and religious, taught Anil all the Hindu scriptures from a young age.  With all the spiritual guidance from his parents, Anil was still searching for more  and the questions he had in his mind were still unanswered.

Anil Kant started writing, composing and singing at a young age of twelve.

He took it as a profession at the age of eighteen, while studying in University. He met his wife, Reena and they got married in 1986. After getting married, he along with his wife spent three years in Singapore and ten years in Indonesia pursuing a career in music that put Anil on the fast track to fame and prosperity giving ghazal shows & performances, travelling frequently all over the world.

At the same time, Anil Kant continued his search for the truth as he had been longing for a deeper relationship with God.

During this time some close friends invited him to train their church choir in Indian music. During these training sessions in church, the love of Jesus was being shared with him. They prayed consistently for Anil’s family while he resisted it. Anil found this love which the believers shared very different yet he did not give it much thought and his heart was closed though the words of Jesus stayed in his mind.

That very year in 1999, Anil returned to India along with his family and set up Trinity Studio.

He found an unknown hand leading and guiding him throughout this time. He remembered that Jesus said I will guide you with my own eyes and direct your path.

But there were still many confusions in his mind.

One night in a very troubled state of mind, he picked up the Bible, hoping to get some answers from it. He cried out wishing to speak to God and put an end to his inner search for truth.

Anil’s prayer had always been asatoma sadgamaya, tamaso maa jyothir gamaya, mrithyur maa amrutam gamaya ( take me from untruth to truth, from darkness to light and from death to eternity).

As he was praying and flipping the pages of the bible, a verse came in front of him from John 14:6,

“I am the way, the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”

That very moment it was as if all the questions were answered instantly.

Anil kept aside all the doubts and fears which were in his mind and invited Jesus into his heart. A powerful presence of God descended upon him and Anil experienced a heavy burden removed and the truth set him free.

Now began his real test of faith where he had to share the Gospel with his wife and children. It was very hard on the family to break their traditional thoughts and the social fears. Anil began to lift his family at the feet of Jesus. His desire was that he and Reena be water baptized together.  He stood on the promise of God where in Acts 16.31 it says

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved – you and your household”.

God is true to his word and Anil got his entire family to Jesus in 2001 and found great inner peace.

Then he dedicated himself completely to use his talents for the Lord and recorded his first Gospel album in 2002 and since then, Anil Kant has released 15 Gospel Albums. His songs are mostly word based (bible scriptures) because it is the word that breaks the yoke.

It brings the anointing and the presence of God in our lives.

His two children, Shreya and Rishabh have given their lives to the Lord and together they are serving Him as a family.

Anil Kant was ordained as a Pastor in the year 2007. The Lord put in his heart to begin a Satsang, a contextualized church model which is a Fellowship relevant to our Indian Culture, reaching out to the unreached.

For the past four years, Pastor Anil Kant is holding weekly satsang fellowship called ‘Ashram of Life’ in Andheri (West), Mumbai.

God's concern for the poor

Deut. 26:5-9. The Egyptians treated us harshly and afflicted us, and imposed hard labor on us. Then we cried to the LORD, the God of our fathers, and the LORD heard our voice and saw our affliction and our toil and our oppression; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with great terror and with signs and wonders; and He has brought us to... this land flowing with milk and honey.
Luke 4:16-21. And He came to Nazareth , where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read... "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He appointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are downtrodden, to proclaim the favorable year of the LORD... Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."
Ps. 140:12. I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the poor.
Is. 25:4. For You have been a defense for the helpless, a defense for the needy in his distress.
Ps. 10:14. The unfortunate commits himself to You; You have been the helper of the orphan... O LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear to vindicate the orphan and the oppressed.
Is 41:17. The afflicted and needy are seeking water, but there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst. I, the LORD, will answer them Myself, as the God of Israel I will not forsake them.
Luke 6:20-21. Blessed are you who are poor, for yours in the kingdom of God . Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.
James 2:5. Did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?

God's commands concerning the poor

Deut. 15:7. If there is a poor man among you, one of your brothers, in any of the towns of the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand to your poor brother; but you shall freely open your hand to him, and generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks.
Deut. 26:12. When you have finished paying the complete tithe of your increase in the third year, the year of tithing, then you shall give it to the Levite, to the stranger, to the orphan and the widow, that they may eat in your towns, and be satisfied.
Lev. 19:19ff. Now when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, neither shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. Nor shall you glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather the fallen fruit of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the needy and for the stranger. I am the LORD your God.
Prov. 31:8ff. [Commandment to kings.] Open your mouth for the dumb, for the rights of all the unfortunate. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.
Is. 58:66ff. Is this not the fast which I choose, to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and break every yoke? Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into the house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
Jer. 22:3. Do justice and righteousness, and deliver the one who has been robbed from the power of his oppressor. Also do not mistreat or do violence to the stranger, the orphan, or the widow; and do not shed innocent blood in this place.
Luke 12:33. "Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves purses which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near, nor moth destroys."
Luke 3:11. And [John the Baptist] would answer and say to them, "Let the man with two tunics share with him who has none, and let him who has food do likewise."
Mt. 5:42. Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.
Blessings on those who serve the poor
Prov. 22:9 He who is generous will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor.
Jer. 22:16 "Did not your father eat and drink, and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. He pled the cause of the afflicted and needy; then it was well. Is that not what it means to know Me?" declares the LORD.
Deut. 15:10. You shall give generously to [your poor brother], and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in all your undertakings.
Prov. 19:17. He who is gracious to a poor man lends to the LORD, and He will repay him for his good deed.
Jer. 7:5-7. "For, if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly practice justice between a man and his neighbor, if you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, nor walk after other gods to your own ruin, then I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever."
Is. 58:10. "And if you give yourself to the hungry, and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness, and your gloom will become like midday. And the LORD will continually guide you, and satisfy your desire in scorched places, and give strength to your bones; and you will be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail."
Luke 14:12-14. "When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return, and repayment come to you. But when you give a reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, since they do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous." Luke 12:44. "Sell your possessions and give alms; make yourselves purses which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near, nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Mt. 19:20ff. The young man said to Him, "All these commands I have kept; what am I still lacking?" Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."
Consequences of not serving the poor
Ezek. 16:49ff. "Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom : she and her daughters had arrogance, abundant food, and careless ease, but she did not help the poor and needy. Thus they were haughty and committed abominations before Me. Therefore I removed them when I saw it."
Is. 10:1-3. "Woe to those who enact evil statutes, and to those who continually record unjust decisions, so as to deprive the needy of justice, and rob the poor of My people of their rights... Now what will you do in the day of punishment, and in the devastation which will come from afar?"
Luke 1:52ff. [Mary's Magnificat.] "He has brought down rulers from their thrones, and has exalted those who were hungry. He has filled the hungry with good things; and sent away the rich empty-handed." Ezek. 22:29,31. "The people of the land have practiced oppression and committed robbery, and they have wronged the poor and needy and have oppressed the sojourner without justice... Thus I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; their way I have brought upon their heads," declares the Lord GOD.
Jer. 5:28f. "[The wicked] do not plead the cause, the cause of the orphan, that they may prosper; and they do not defend the rights of the poor. Shall I not punish these people?" declares the LORD. "On such a nation as this, shall I not avenge myself?"
James 5:1-6. Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. ...Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and with you have withheld, cries out against you; and the outcry of the harvesters has reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. You have lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.
Luke 6:24. "But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort in full."
Luke 16:19-25. "Now there was a certain rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, gaily living in splendor every day. And a certain poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores, and longing to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table; besides, even the dogs would come and lick his sores.
Now it came about that the poor man died and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. And in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham far away, and Lazarus in his bosom.
And he cried out and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue; for I am in agony in this flame.'
But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony...'"
