Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? (Matthew 6:25).
The life that we live in this world is a mixture of many things. We do not know what will happen to us in the very next moment. James says, our life is like a mist which appears a little while and then it vanishes (James 4:14). We might be heroes now and next moment we could be a zero, we might be rich now and in the next moment we could be poor. When we come to know all these things about our life we get worried. But is it right thing to get worried as a follower of Christ? What Bible says about our getting worried? Bible says, getting worried is a meaningless thing. Yes, truly it is meaningless. What will we get by worrying; even we cannot add a single hour to our life by this (Matthew 6:27).
Once in a sermon of teaching, Jesus was teaching his disciples about this thing. Jesus said, we can worry, but it is only for the life but not for the other things what to eat, drink and wear. Jesus said, the life is important than the other things. We all know that God has created all the things. He created the animals, birds of the air and the fish of the sea and the human beings. But out of all these things created, only the human being gets worried about life. Jesus gives us an example that the birds of the air also lives, but they will not sow, reap or store away, but the God is feeding them (Matthew 6:26). If you really consider yourselves greater than these birds, then you will not get worried of these things for your Father in heaven knows what you need (v32). Apostle Paul says, the God who has supplied all my needs will surely supply all your needs according to the glorious riches in Christ (Philippians 4:19). Yes, Paul has experienced of the God’s provisions and he is encouraging others to trust in The Lord that He will look after us.
When we are worried and upset about many things, we will forget the important thing that is needed in our life (Luke 10:41). We should seek the thing that is needed. Apostle Paul says, we should only seek whatever is noble, is true, is right, is pure, is lovely and is admirable (Philippians 4:8). We should consider that the prosperity and the poverty both will come from God, for we do not know what may come in our life in the next moment (Ecclesiastes 7:14). Jesus meant to say, getting worried is unreasonable, unnatural and unnecessary. What is necessary is trusting in God that He provides me for I am worthy than the birds of the air, and the beasts of the earth. Jesus says to his disciples not to store anything on earth, but in heaven (Matthew 6:19-20). Let us look for the citizenship that we have in heaven (Philippians 3:20), and prosperity that we have in the Kingdom of Heaven, but not of this world. We are always guests on this earth, though we are living here but we are not of this. We have only one life, if we miss it here we have it nowhere again.
