Brazilian Football team and their Faith

World Cup Thanksgiving to God

The World Cup 2002 was not supposed to be Brazil’s tournament
A powerful Argentinean teaming sporting the likes of Batistuta and Verón seemed unbeatable, while the Brazilians had barely managed to qualify.

A Selecão did receive a lucky draw, however, and played China, Turkey, and Costa Rica in the group stage.

After defeating these three opponents the team went on the play Belgium and then England in the quarter-finals.

In the semi-final game they once again matched up against Turkey and managed to win 1-0.

Meanwhile, Argentina had been eliminated in the group stage by a David Beckham goal and stellar play from the Swedish squad, and a Germany team led by star goalkeeper Oliver Kahn was all that stood between Brazil and World Cup glory.

Kahn won the trophy amidst the frenetic celebration and streaming confetti a group of three players, including Kaka and Lucio, knelt face down on the field and gave thanks to God for the victory.

Later, the entire team knelt in prayer to give God the glory, and on the winner’s podium several players sported shirts with slogans such as,
“I belong to Jesus” and “Jesus loves you.”

After the 2002 World Cup several Brazilian players continued to publicly display their faith.

There were a total of seven Christians on the 2006 Brazilian World Cup roster; many were known for praying on the field and for modelling Christian apparel after scoring a goal or winning a game.

Lucio and Kaká continued to lead the Christian delegation – both displayed Christian-message shirts after Brazil won the 2005 and 2009 Confederations Cups.

Lucio became the team captain after Brazil’s disappointing 2006 World Cup performance.

He does not seem to be overly concerned with the weight of a nation resting on his shoulders, he said “anyone who steps onto the football field has to accept the result.  When you lose there is a need to analyze why.”

His analysis must have been effective – in the early summer of 2009 Brazil beat the USA to win the Confederations Cup.

In the upcoming World Cup the expectations for the Brazilian side will once again be high, but the players are quick to point out that life is about more than winning and losing.

In an online interview Lucio said,
“Anyone who thinks that he has everything and doesn’t have Jesus doesn’t have anything.”

Hats Off to Brazil Team

Dr. Ida Scudder of Vellore

Missionary & Founder of CMC Hospital

Ida Scudder vowed that she would never go back to India as a missionary like her parents and grandparents!

She was attending college in America when she got word from her father, who was serving as a doctor in India, that her mother was unwell. Ida had been born in India on December 9, 1870, and lived there until about age five. Her parents had brought her back to the United States to finish her education and then left her there when they returned to India.

Ida was happy. She did not wish to return to India.

She wanted to get married and have a nice home and all the things that other girls in America had.

In India, she had seen too many starving and sick people.

The misery was more that she wanted to think about. She told her college friends that as soon as her mother was well, she would return to America.

She went to India, and was helping her father and mother at a mission bungalow in 1892.
On one night, God changed her mind about being a medical missionary in India.

This story is incredible and shows how Ida received her extraordinary call to serve helpless women in India for the rest of her life.

She had been sitting in her room reading, when a high-caste Brahmin stepped onto their veranda. His young wife, only fourteen, was in labour and having a terrible struggle to stay alive. He begged Ida to come and help him. The barber women – India’s midwives – had done as much as they could. Without more help, his wife would die.

Ida replied that she knew nothing about childbirth. She told him that her father was a doctor and as soon as he returned home, she would bring him to help. The Brahmin replied that that would not be possible. No foreign man had ever entered the house. His wife would just have to die if Ida could not help her. Ida told him she was sorry, but could do nothing. She went back to reading her book.
In a little while, she heard footsteps on her veranda again.

She thought maybe the Brahmin had come back, but no, it was a Mohammedan.

“Please,” he pleaded with her, “come help my wife.”

She was dying in labour. Ida’s father, Dr. John Scudder, had returned home by then. He offered to go, but the Mohammedan refused. No man outside of his family had ever looked on his wife’s face. Ida and her father offered to go and help as best as they could, but the Mohammedan refused.

Ida returned to her room, but was restless and could not read her book.

In only a little while, she heard footsteps for the third time. This time the man was a high-caste Hindu, and he also had a young wife that was dying in labour.

Would Ida Please Come?

Only a woman may look on his wife. Ida could only reply as she had to the others. Without her father’s help she could do nothing.

Ida was restless all night and could not sleep.

She spent the entire time in anguish and prayer. She did not want to work in India. She wanted the good life with her friends in America. But she could not stand the thought of all of the young women who would die without help.

She prayed for guidance.

Later she wrote,

“I think that was the first time I ever met God face to face, and all that time it seemed that He was calling me into this work. Early in the morning I heard the “tom-tom” beating in the village and it struck terror in my heart, for it was a death message. I sent our servant, who had come up early, to the village to find out the fate of these three women, and he came back saying that all of them had died during the night . . . Again I shut myself in my room and thought very seriously about the condition of the Indian women and, after much thought and prayer, I went to my father and mother and told them that I must go home and study medicine, and come back to India to help such women.”

Ida did give up all thoughts of marriage. She went back to the United States and studied medicine at Cornell Medical College in New York City. She graduated in 1899 as part of the first class at that school that accepted women as medical students.

Ida returned to India in 1900. She was a well-trained doctor, and she had in hand a gift of $10,000 from Mr. Schell, a Manhattan banker, to build a hospital.

The mission leaders had told her to raise the money before she left.

She knew that she would be leaving in only a week, but trusted God. He did indeed perform a miracle for the mission. The head of a missionary society had given Ida Mr. Schell’s name and asked her to call on him.

Mr. Schell was known as a tightwad, but Ida was hopeful for at least a $500 donation. Ida did not know that Mr. Schell had heard about the work in India and was willing to help.

He wrote a check for $10,000 and gave it to her and asked only that the hospital be named after his wife, Mary Taber Schell.

Ida was ecstatic.

She returned to India and eventually founded not only the hospital (built in 1902), but also a medical school at Vellore, 75 miles from Madras, to train other nurses and doctors. The need in India was great.

(Vellore CMC)

In 1900 there was only one trained doctor for every 10,000 people.
There are so many good resources about Ida Scudder, and indeed her whole family.
She was a third generation medical missionary.
The tradition in their family continues to this day even to a fifth generation.

Ida Knew the Calling and Nothing Stopped her in pursuing her Call....

Are we ready to the Extra Mile?

The Right Time For Marriage

"When is the right time for marriage?"

The right time for marriage is different for each person and unique to each situation.

Maturity levels and life experiences are varying factors; some people are ready for marriage at 18, and some are never prepared for it.

As the U.S. divorce rate exceeds 50 percent, it is obvious that much of our society does not view marriage as an everlasting commitment. However, this is the world's view, which will usually contradict God's (1 Corinthians 3:18).

A strong foundation is imperative for a successful marriage.

Our Christian walk should include much more than just attending church on Sundays and being involved in Bible study.

We must have a personal relationship with God that comes only through trusting in and obeying Jesus Christ.

We must educate ourselves about marriage, seeking God's view on it, before diving in. A person must know what the Bible says about love, commitment, sexual relations, the role of a husband and wife, and His expectations of us before committing to marriage.

Having at least one Christian married couple as a role model is also important. An older couple can answer questions about what goes into a successful marriage, how to create intimacy (beyond the physical), how faith is invaluable, etc.

A prospective married couple also needs to make sure that they know each other well.

They should know each other's views on marriage, finances, in-laws, child-rearing, discipline, duties of a husband and wife, whether only one of them or both will be working outside the home, and the level of the other person’s spiritual maturity.

Many people get married taking their partner's word for it that they are a Christian, only to find out later that it was merely lip service.

Every couple considering marriage should go through counselling with a Christian marriage counsellor or pastor.

In fact, many pastors will not perform weddings unless they have met several times with the couple in a counselling setting.

Marriage is not only a commitment, but a covenant with God.

It is the promise to remain with that other person for the remainder of your life, no matter whether your spouse is rich, poor, healthy, sick, overweight, underweight, or boring. A Christian marriage should endure through every circumstance, including fighting, anger, devastation, disaster, depression, bitterness, addiction, and loneliness.

Marriage should never be entered into with the idea that divorce is an option - not even as the last straw.

The Bible tells us that through God all things are possible (Luke 18:27), and this certainly includes marriage.

If a couple makes the decision at the beginning to stay committed and to put God first, divorce will not be the inevitable solution to a miserable situation.
It is important to remember that God wants to give us the desires of our heart, but that is only possible if our desires match His.

People often get married because it just “feels right.”

In the early stages of dating, and even of marriage, you see the other person coming, and you get butterflies in your stomach.

Romance is at its peak, and you know the feeling of being “in love.” Many expect that this feeling will remain forever. The reality is that it does not. The result can be disappointment and even divorce as those feelings fade, but those in successful marriages know that the excitement of being with the other person does not have to end.

Instead, the butterflies give way to a deeper love, a stronger commitment, a more solid foundation, and an unbreakable security.

The Bible is clear that love does not rely on feelings.

This is evident when we are told to love our enemies (Luke 6:35). True love is possible only when we allow the Holy Spirit to work through us, cultivating the fruit of our salvation (Galatians 5:22-23).

It is a decision we make on a daily basis to die to ourselves and our selfishness, and to let God shine through us.

Paul tells us how to love others in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

When we are ready to love another person as 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 describes, that is the right time for marriage.

Effects of 1904 Welsh Revival

The Revival - What happened?
Evan Roberts

Souls were saved, individual lives were changed and Society itself was changed.

Countless numbers of souls were saved.
No records were kept of the actual number converted, but 150,000 is a very conservative estimate during the first six months.

Wales again became a God-fearing nation.

People, thousands of them, were saved. There are men and women still in our churches today whose parents or grandparents' testimonies were that they were converted in the Revival in 1904 or 1905.

Not only were individual lives changed by the power of the Holy Spirit, but whole communities were changed indeed society itself was changed - Wales was again a God-fearing nation.

Public houses became almost empty. Men and women who used to waste their money in getting drunk were now saving it, giving it to help their churches, buying clothes and food for their families.

And not only drunkenness, but stealing and other offences grew less and less so that often a magistrate came to court and found there were no cases for him.

Men whose language had been filthy before learnt to talk purely.

It is related that not only did the colliers put in a better day's work, but also that the pit ponies (horses) turned disobedient!

The ponies were so used to being cursed and sworn at that they just didn't understand when orders were given in kind, clean words!

The dark tunnels underground in the mines echoed with the sounds of prayer and hymns, instead of oaths and nasty jokes and gossip.

People who had been careless about paying their bills, or paying back money they had borrowed, paid up all they owed.

People who had not been friends for a long time because of something that had happened in the past, forgot their quarrels and were happy together again.

In fact, Evan Roberts used to say that there could be no blessing on anyone who had unkind thoughts about anyone else.

Will Such a Touch Return to our Nation?

Is there a Watchman who is incessantly pleading before the Lord?

Can God Find one under the Sun with a Fervent heart to see the nations turn to Him?

Will You be the One...?

Evan Roberts Prayed for Eleven Years to see the Touch...

The Question is...

Are You willing to Stand in the Gap in Prayer and Intercession?

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved (Matthew 5:18) (NLT).
While living in the world, we come across many books. Few of them gives us wisdom and few of them teaches us the truth. But there is a book which gives us the wisdom and truth, and this book exactly tells us about the life we are living, and the life which we should live. That book we name it as a “Bible”, which is to be considered as “Holy”. Why it is “Holy”? It is Holy, because it is the word of God, the God who is Holy (Leviticus 11:44). All the Scripture is nothing but the breath of the Holy God (2 Timothy 3:16). We should trust in the Bible, because it is the breath of God which gave the life to Adam in the beginning and giving life to us even to this day. Everything that we see is in this world the result of the Word of God. There is a great reason why God speaks? God speaks a word for its fulfillment. He never speaks just like that, but every word that comes out of His mouth will achieve its purpose in its own time (Isaiah 55:11). We as the followers of Christ should trust in the Bible, because it is the fulfillment of the Word of God.
Sometimes we feel like trusting in God is enough for us, but we should trust in the people, the prophets who wrote the Bible. God spoke to His Prophets, and through these prophets He spoke to the people on the earth (Hebrews 1:1), when we have faith in these prophets who spoke the Word of God to His people, we will be successful in our life (2 Chronicles 20:20). Jesus, being the son of God, He trusted in The Bible. Jesus himself is the Word of God, and He trusted what the Prophets heard from God and wrote (Luke 24:27). We can see Jesus always taught the people about the Word of God from the Bible, but from nowhere else. Jesus said, as long as the heavens and the earth exist, the Word of God will exist in the world. Even if the heavens and earth passes away, the Word of God will not passes away (Matthew 24:35). The Word of God is established forever. There is another reason that Jesus was giving us why we should trust in the Word, He said, the Word of God is true and it cannot be broken (John 10:35).
Jesus said, blessed are those who hear the Word of God and obey it (Luke 11:28). It is not just the one who hears the Word of God is blessed, but the one who obey it is highly blessed. Bible is not just the events took place many years ago, but it is the events that are taking place even to this day. In a single word we can say, Bible is the fulfillment of Prophecy. Few people make others to get scared about Bible. But the truth is that when we hear the Word of God and obey it, we will have a blessed life. Do not fear about the Word of God, but love the Word of God. It makes you to grow in Wisdom and Knowledge, for these both are hidden in Jesus Christ (Colossians 2:3). Let us all trust in what Bible speaks, because Jesus trusted in this and He prospered. When we trust in the Word of God by meditating it, we surely will prosper.
            GOD BLESS YOU
